Value Education

Value Education

"Education means all-round drawing out of the best in child and man—body, mind, and spirit." – Gandhi.

“A value is valuable when the value of value is valuable to oneself.”- Swami Dayananda Saraswati

The main purpose and objective of education is the development of an all round and well-balanced personality of the students, and also to develop all dimensions of the students so that our children can help make our nation more democratic, socially responsible, culturally rich and intellectually competitive nation.

In the present era, education is given by modern technology like computers, smart boards, tablets etc due to this we are inclined more towards giving information to the students but not knowledge. Also we focus more on ranks in the examination than application of learning in our day-to-day life. The teaching methodology of majority of the teachers have turned into grades-oriented and marks-oriented, individuals overlooking and undermining the superlative purpose of education i.e. refinement of ethics, purification of soul and enlightenment of human intellect. More sadly, in the pursuit of degree-oriented education, we have, knowingly or unknowingly, failed to incorporate the learning of moral and ethical values to our studies for the positive nourishment of our character. The objective of today’s education system has changed, the present system don’t focus on preparing good human beings but it focus on preparing money making machines. We fill information in the student’s mind which he/she used to earn money. In a broader view, as the outcome of education, we are producing successful professionals obsessed with material pursuits, who fail as caring and kind hearted person.

The other aspect of their personality like physical, emotional, social and spiritual are not properly developed in providing for the growth of attitudes, habits, values, skills and interests among the pupils. It is here that we talk in terms of value-education.

Our education system has fail to develop respect toward elders even towards own parents. As a result youngsters don’t want to live with their old parents after marriage, they want to live in nuclear family which is totally against the Indian culture and tradition. Now a day peoples are more active on social media and internet but less active among their family members. Some peoples have thousands of friends on facebook but only handful in reality.

India is known for its rich cultural and spiritual heritage, and the need for a value-system through education has been felt and recognised through centuries. Value system play an important role in any decision making process. In fact, every human action is the reflection of personal and social values.

Hence, if we want to achieve the purpose of education in life, we must develop the platform in our classrooms where the child not only gain informational education but also develop his mind and soul towards values and ethics and make his own personality. As when the child come out of formal education system and start living in society, these moral values and ethics and going to decide his nature and personalities.
